23rd Annual SMHC Auxiliary Golf Tournament Raises More Than $25,000

October 13, 2017

Fog and drizzle did not keep the 23rd annual Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) Auxiliary Golf Tournament from being another great success, raising more than $25,000 to support the hospital! Held at Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk for the second consecutive year, there were 112 golfers, 70 sponsors, and numerous volunteers who helped to make the tournament memorable. Golfers enjoyed a great day of golf on a beautiful and otherwise ‘members-only’ course, and they also competed at contests, participated in a prize raffle, and enjoyed a lunchtime cookout, followed by delicious barbecue and Dilly Bars, personally hand-made by John Dube of the Kennebunk Dairy Queen, after the games. Not to be outdone by The Master’s Tournament, the winning team – PM Construction – received the coveted white SMHC lab coats embroidered with "SMHC Auxiliary 2017 Golf Tournament Winner."

The tournament supports SMHC’s Cancer Care program and Pediatric Care needs in the hospital. The guest speaker at this year’s event was Dr. Peter Rubin, medical director of SMHC Cancer Care and Blood Disorders, who thanked the golfers and spoke about how the funds raised from the tournament directly impact those patients who might otherwise not be able to afford care.

The SMHC Auxiliary is grateful to Webhannet Golf Club and Kirk Kimball, Webhannet Golf Professional, for their generosity and partnership with this event. Additionally, thank you to the many individuals and companies that donated money or gifts in-kind and participated in the event, including Gold Sponsors North East Mobile Health Services, Spectrum Healthcare Partners and The Thomas Agency, Inc.; Silver Sponsors Biddeford Savings, P&C Insurance, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution and SMRT Architects & Engineers; and Bronze Sponsors Kennebunk Savings, New England Rehabilitation Hospital, Norman, Hanson & DeTroy, LLC and the University of New England.
