Financial Assistance Program

Memorial Hospital and its affiliated physician practices offer many financial assistance and referral programs to ensure that cost will not be a barrier to anyone in our community getting the health care services they need.

If payment of your health care expenses could create a financial hardship for you, our staff will work with you to apply for financial assistance. For full information about the program and how to apply, go to our Financial Program Assistance page.

Making Payments

We know that health care costs can come up unexpectedly. Whether or not you are insured, whether or not you qualify for financial assistance, we understand that you may have difficulty paying your healthcare costs in full at the time of service or in one lump sum. We are happy to work with any patient to set up a payment plan.

Memorial Hospital also participates in several statewide assistance programs. Please inquire regarding your eligibility for these programs:

  • NH Health Access Network
  • NH Medication Bridge

Other Important Information

Bills from Other Providers of Services
You may also receive separate bills from other providers of professional services. Examples of these services are x-ray interpretation, pathology interpretation, surgeon and anesthesiology services, as well as physician office visits. You will need to contact those providers directly if you have any questions.

Insurance
The hospital will bill your insurance carrier directly for services incurred in the hospital. You are responsible for all patient co-pays and deductibles. You will be billed directly for those amounts or requested to pay them at the time of service. If you have any questions regarding insurance coverage, please contact your insurance provider directly. Your insurance provider will be able to tell you if they cover a specific treatment or procedure.

Procedures Not Covered by Insurance
If you have a non-covered procedure or do not have health care coverage, please contact our Self Pay Patient Accounting Representatives to arrange for payment or estimate for the cost of those procedures.

Pre-certification or Prior Authorization
Many health insurance plans have pre-certification or prior authorization requirements for specific services. Information about these requirements is usually listed on the back of your health care insurance card. Please refer to your card, your benefits handbook or contact the customer service section of your health plan to inquire about your responsibility to complete these requirements.

Referrals
A referral is permission from your Primary Care Provider to seek specialty care. Most managed care insurance plans require a referral. Things to remember about a referral:

  •  Be certain the referral is for a service covered by you health plan.
  • The referral should be to a provider within your health plan.
  • Check for limitations on the referral. For example, number of visits allowed and expiration date.
  • Contact your PCP about a referral, prior to your appointment.
