I chose to study medicine out of a fascination for how the body works and what happens when it doesn’t. With a love for anatomy, a desire to help others engage in and enjoy the activities they love, and an appreciation for treating the whole patient, I pursued a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As a resident, my passion for musculoskeletal medicine continued to grow and I sought a fellowship in sports medicine to seek further expertise in the all-around care of the active individual.
As a Portland, Maine native and recipient of the Doctor’s for Maine’s Future Scholarship award in medical school, I am beyond thrilled to have returned to Maine to complete my fellowship and have the opportunity to give back to the people of this great state.
Undergraduate: Tufts University, BS in Chemistry
Medical School: Penn State College of Medicine
Residency: Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency
I grew up in rural New Hampshire playing any sport I could get my hands on including soccer, softball, ice hockey, basketball and snowboarding. Through multiple injuries in high school, I realized the importance of strength training and rehab to stay healthy for the season. I went on to play soccer at Tufts University in Medford, MA, as the starting goalkeeper. This is where I became more interested in preventative health and nutrition, starting to consider the field of medicine. After college I spent some time working at a biotech company in Cambridge, MA were I started to develop an interest in research. I then went on to Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA and come back to New England for my family medicine residency at Maine Medical Center.
I fell in love with primary care throughout residency and hope to continue to care for families and provide preventative health care in combination with a sports medicine practice going forward. After fellowship I hope to spend half my time in primary care and half my time in sports medicine while continuing to stay involved in teaching and research.
I chose the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Maine Medical Center because of the supportive faculty and opportunities for autonomy in caring for our patients. As fellows, we are the primary team doc for our athletes but always have backup from our attendings when needed. Our program also has a fantastic ultrasound curriculum and I look forward to developing these skills throughout the year.
Outside of work I enjoy doing almost anything outdoors including biking, running, beach-going playing ultimate frisbee and exploring the coast of Maine.
