Linda Daigle was born and raised on a farm in northern Aroostook County. It was there in the remote northern reaches of Maine that Linda learned the power of community. After earning her degree in education at the University of Maine, it was her proud French Canadian heritage and sense of home that inspired her to go back and teach in her local community, until she retired nearly three decades later.

A few years after retirement, Linda was diagnosed with endometrial cancer at Cary Medical Center in Caribou. After considering her options for care, Linda felt it was important to stay in Maine, and close to the community from which she has always drawn strength.

Linda was referred to Maine Medical Partners – MaineHealth Women's Health Division of Gynecologic Oncology in Scarborough. Dr. Christopher Darus, a gynecologic oncologist, and his team provided expertise for Linda’s specific type of cancer. Gynecologic oncologists are specialists that comprehensively care for women with known or suspected cancers of the female reproductive tract. This includes expertise in surgical and medical management. He coordinated Linda’s treatment plan at Maine Medical Center, which included minimally invasive robotic surgery.

“Maine Medical Center could offer a lot of the answers to my questions. I had the best care possible,” said Linda.

Today, if you travel north to Madawaska, you’ll find Linda living cancer-free…probably enjoying a cup of coffee with friends or family in the community she loves.
