Hand Therapy

The SMHC Hand Therapy program offers a comprehensive approach to the treatment and rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity. Occupational therapists work in conjunction with both the referring physician and the patient directly to established client centered goals to ensure the highest quality of care and positive rehabilitation results. Our therapists, including a certified hand therapist in Sanford, are trained to treat a variety of conditions to promote functional independence, minimize pain and provide self-management strategies for overall wellness and independence.

Treatment Includes:

  • Hand Assessment
  • Custom splinting
  • Modalities (hot/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, fluidotherapy, phonophoresis and iontophoresis)
  • Edema management
  • Strengthening
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Patient education / self-management strategies
  • Ergonomics assessment

Outpatient hand therapy is available at all SMHC rehabilitation locations.
