Our physical therapists help people prevent and treat sports injuries and improve sports performance. Sports physical therapists offer sports injury evaluation and sports injury therapy for all ages. They also provide sports performance training.
What is sports therapy?
Sports therapy helps prevent sports injuries and improve movement and function after a sports injury. Sports therapists use massage (manual therapy), heat treatment and exercise. The goal is to return the patient to full fitness. Sports therapy treatment may include:
- Exercise to prevent injury and help performance
- Care of injuries
- Hands-on sport and remedial massage
- Strengthening and stretching exercises after injury or surgery
From prevention to improving performance
There are many aspects to sports therapy. Sports therapy can focus on improving performance. Athletes can participate in sports therapy individually or with small groups or teammates. Concussion management, including baseline testing for student athletes, is also a component of sports therapy.
