Robert P Smith Jr
I enjoy the opportunity to combine patient care with active teaching and research roles at Maine Medical Center, where I serve as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases. I have a strong interest in the recognition and treatment of emerging diseases such as Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections, as well as infections acquired in other parts of the world such as malaria. Another area of focus is care for persons with HIV, and I serve as Medical Director of MMC's Virology Treatment Center. My research is centered at the MaineHealth Institute for Research Vector-borne Disease Laboratory , where I lead a team of researchers looking at how changes in ecology impact human diseases transmitted by ticks and mosquitos. My wife, Margaret, and I are the proud parents of three grown children and we enjoy skiing, sailing, birding and travel.
