Dr Herbert received his MD degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1976. Following his Internship and Residencyat MMC he began his practice of general and vascular surgery in 1981. Dr. Herbert holds an academic appointment from the Tufts University School of Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and has been a member of the Maine Medical Center Surgical Residency Teaching Program for his entire career. Dr. Herbert’s career of over 35 years has included a broad range of surgical practice, including General Surgery ( gastro-intestinal, breast, hernia, trauma), Renal Transplantation/Dialysis Access and Vascular Surgery. For the last decade Dr. Herbert has concentrated on the evaluation and treatment of lower extremity arterial insufficiency, diabetic foot problems, limb salvage and wound care. Dr. Herbert is currently Co-Medical Director of Maine Medical Center's Wound Healing & Hyperbarics.
