Visitor Safety Measures & Amenities

To continue providing the safest care environment, while addressing the supportive needs of our patients, we have updated our visitor policy as of October 5, 2022.

Visitation Safety Measures - Effective 10/5/22

All visitors/escorts are subject to self-screening for COVID-19. Visitors/escorts with any COVID-19 symptoms will NOT be allowed to enter the PBMC|WCGH facilities.

All visitors/escorts must:

  1. Perform hand hygiene prior to entering and upon leaving the patient’s room/care area; and
  2. Wear a mask at all times in the facility including while visiting in a patient’s room.

Hospital cafeterias remain closed to the general public, but will be available to ambulatory patients and visitors.

Visitation will now be limited to:

Hospital Inpatient Areas:

  • Pediatrics: Two parents/guardians allowed in all areas, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing.
  • Obstetrics: 2 support people during labor/delivery and postpartum stay. These should be the same 2 individuals for the duration of the patient’s stay unless specific arrangements have been made with the care team.
  • All other inpatient areas including critical care: Two visitors at any one time from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. Pediatric visitors under age 2 are discouraged because of their inability to mask.
  • Patients on Palliative Care/Comfort Measures: Two visitors at any one time daily, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Exceptions may be managed by the care team.
  • End of Life in any inpatient area: Up to four family members at any one time may visit patients likely to expire within 24 hours (all areas) – visiting times are coordinated with the care team.
  • PBMC PARC Unit: Visitors not permitted.
  • Visitors may be restricted on units with an active COVID-19 outbreak at the direction of Infection Prevention.

Patient Discharges: Patients will be brought to an appropriate entrance for pick up.

Outpatient Surgery and Procedural Areas: Adult patients may be accompanied by one visitor. Pediatric patients may be accompanied by two parents/guardians, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing.

Emergency Department: Adult patients may be accompanied by one visitor, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing.

Ambulatory/Diagnostic Areas: Adult patients may be accompanied by one visitor. Pediatric patients may be accompanied by two parents/guardians, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing.

Patients Requiring Special Assistance: Patients in any care setting who need help, such as with mobility or communications with the care team about their medical history or care, may be assisted by an adult escort to provide the needed assistance or support, such necessity to be determined by the care team.

Patients with COVID-19 or Being Evaluated for COVID-19: Patients on precautions for COVID-19 may have two visitors per day. The care team may allow additional visitors for end of life or other circumstances deemed necessary to meet patient care needs. Visitors will be offered an N95 respirator and are required to remain masked at all times while in the facility including the patient’s room. Visitation should be limited to close family members and/or essential support people as identified by the patient. After visiting, visitors must leave the facility (not staying in waiting rooms or the Café).

These restrictions are for the protection of patients, employees, visitors, and the public, and consistent with guidance from governmental authorities, and are adopted for the purpose of reducing the potential for propagation of the COVID-19 virus. These restrictions are imposed by order of the Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.

All patients coming to Pen Bay Medical Center for a procedure must check in at the registration desk in the main entrance of the hospital.

The Community Wellness Trail at Pen Bay Medical Center.

The trail, now open to the public, spans around the perimeter of the hospital grounds and is accessed by three trail heads, including a small, parking lot across from CedarWorks on Route 1. Two additional trail heads are located within the Pen Bay Medical Center Campus at Pen Bay Urology, 3 Glen Cove Drive and the Pen Bay Café.

This project has been brought to the community with the support of Pen Bay Medical Center colleagues, community members and local businesses.

The Community Wellness Trail includes nine Fit-Trail stations. For your safety, please read the directions at each station and follow the instructions while participating in the activity. The target heart beat range guides located at each station provide valuable information regarding how you should pace yourself during exercise.

While using the Community Wellness Trail we ask that you…

  • Please plan ahead and prepare to carry out any trash. (Dog waste stations are located at each trail head.)
  • Please stay on the trail.
  • Respect the wildlife.
  • Be considerate of other visitors and respect the privacy of our patients.
  • The Community Wellness Trail is open from sunrise to sunset.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • Please check for ticks after walking the trail
