Physicians Join Maine Medical Partners

Marie Caldwell, MDMarie Caldwell, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Endocrinology & Diabetes. Dr. Caldwell is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. She comes to MMC from University of North Carolina Hospitals where she completed her residency, including serving as chief resident, and endocrinology fellowship. She received her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Caldwell’s clinical interests include general endocrinology, diabetes and
metabolism. When not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors, baking and reading.

Scott Statman, MDScott Statman, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Hospital Medicine. Dr. Statman received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He recently completed his internal medicine residency at NYU School of Medicine. This past year he served as NYU’s Chief Resident in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety based primarily at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System – Manhattan campus. Dr. Statman’s clinical interests include medical education, patient safety and quality improvement. When not working, he enjoys skiing, hiking, traveling and spending time with his wife and with his cat, Salvatore.

Mats Agren, MDMats Agren, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Neurosurgery & Spine. He is well-established within the communities he will serve. Dr. Agren is Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and National Board of Medical Examiners. He received his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his spine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Massachusetts combined with a residency in orthopaedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Amanda Roberts, DOAmanda Roberts, D.O., M.S., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Roberts is Board certified in Internal Medicine and recently completed her geriatric fellowship here at Maine Medical Center. She received her medical degree from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and her masters of science from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Roberts’ clinical interests include multi-morbidity, polypharmacy and long-term care. When not working, she enjoys escape rooms, beekeeping and spending time with family.


Margaret W Curran, MDMargaret Curran, M.D., has recently joined Maine Medical Partners – Portland Family Medicine. After earning her bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Bates College, she went on to earn her medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Maine Track program. She then completed her residency in family medicine at Maine Medical Center, which included an additional year acting as chief resident. Her clinical interests include maternal-child health and obstetrical care, adolescent health and palliative care. In her spare time, you can find Dr. Curran running or enjoying one of Portland’s many restaurants with friends.

Samuel Woodworth, MDSamuel Woodworth, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Hospital Medicine. Dr. Woodworth will be splitting his time between MMC and Stephens Memorial Hospital. Dr. Woodworth received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he will be Chief Medical Resident 2020-2021. Dr. Woodworth’s clinical interests include medical education and rural inpatient medicine. When not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors and leather-working.


Micheal Hellen, MDMicheal Hellen, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – Hospital Medicine. Dr. Hellen will be working at both MMC and Stephens Memorial Hospital. A graduate of University of Nevada School of Medicine, Dr. Hellen completed his residency here at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Hellen’s clinical interests include medical education and diagnostic reasoning.
