PORTLAND, Maine — Maine Medical Partners announces the following new hires.
Elizabeth "Vinny" Seiverling, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Dermatology. Dr. Seiverling comes to us from Penn State Hershey Medical Center where she was an assistant professor. She received her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Seiverling completed an internal medicine internship at Massachusetts General Hospital and dermatology residency at University of California, San Francisco. Her clinical interests include skin cancer identification and treatment. Through the use of dermoscopy and confocal microscopy, she aims to diagnose skin cancer at its earliest stage. Dr. Seiverling also conducts educational research focusing on the early detection of melanoma using dermoscopy. When not at work, Dr. Seiverling enjoys playing tennis, hiking and spending time with her husband (a family physician) and their two children.
Monica Thim, D.O., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Hospital Medicine. Dr. Thim is Board certified in internal medicine and will be splitting her time between Maine Medical Center and Stephens Memorial Hospital. She received her medical degree from University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Baystate Medical Center, where she was Chief Resident. Dr. Thim’s clinical interests include development of clinical education, quality improvement, clinical reasoning, pathophysiology of disease and point of care ultrasound. When not in the hospital, she enjoys traveling, cooking and anything outdoors.
Sei-Gyung Sze, M.D., recently joined the Maine Children's Cancer Program. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Stanford University in 2005 and her MD from the University of Rochester in 2010. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2013, where she also served as chief resident. While at Yale, she was selected by her peers to receive the Morris Y. Krosnick Award for exemplifying compassionate care in pediatrics. She then continued her training at Duke University Medical Center, where she completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology in 2017 and stem cell transplant in 2018. While at Duke, she was a recipient of a T32 grant to study molecular mechanisms of leukemogenesis. As a pediatric hematologist/oncologist, Dr. Sze cares for children, adolescents and young adults with a wide variety of diagnoses. Her clinical interests also include acute leukemia, neuroblastoma and bone marrow failure.
David Polisner, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Polisner will be working in area nursing homes where MMP provides patient care. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and completed his residency at University of North Carolina Hospitals. Prior to completing his geriatrics fellowship at MMC, Dr. Polisner served as Medical Director, Hospital Medicine Service, and Chief, Division of Inpatient Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Portland. His clinical interests include comprehensive geriatric assessment and long-term care of older adults. Outside of work, Dr. Polisner enjoys spending time with his family, summers on Sebago Lake and coaching his two boys in hockey and baseball.
Bram Geller, M.D., has recently joined Maine Medical Partners - MaineHealth Cardiology. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania/Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He also completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac critical care medicine while at the University of Pennsylvania. He did his internal medicine training at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston. His Doctorate of Medicine is from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Colby College. Throughout his training, he received multiple honors and awards. Dr. Geller has been a health care provider in Malawi and led community service trips to Grenada and Australia, along with volunteering his time at community clinics. Clinically, he enjoys taking care of patients with a wide variety of cardiac problems.
Matija Burtis, D.O., has joined Maine Medical Center - Weight & Wellness Program. Dr. Burtis received her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Massachusetts in Family Practice. Dr. Burtis' clinical interests include obesity medicine, preventative medicine and women's health across a lifespan. She will be the medical director of the obesity management program for adults at MMC's Weight & Wellness Program. In her spare time, Dr. Burtis enjoys spending time with her husband and two teenage sons, sailing, biking, hiking, yoga, gardening, laughing and simply breathing.
Kimberly Malka, M.D., Ph.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Surgical Care. Dr. Malka received her medical degree and PhD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. She recently completed the Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency program from the University of Massachusetts as well. Dr. Malka is particularly interested in clinical vascular surgery and studying signaling pathways that con-tribute to aortic aneurysm formation and growth. Dr. Malka will be part of Maine Medical Partners - Surgical Care, working in the Division of Vascular Surgery. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her two dogs.
Andrew Schwartzman, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners – MaineHealth Cardiology. He specializes in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He comes to Maine from Tufts Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was a fellow at Tufts and at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, MA. He was also an attending physician and hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after completing his residency at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to that, Dr. Schwartzman was research assistant at Yale University School of Medicine. He received his bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Maryland, and his M.D. at West Virginia University. He has been an instructor at Tufts School of Medicine and Harvard School of Medicine. He has served on several hospital committees, received community service awards, supervised internal medicine house staff and delivered many presentations in New England.
Zhyldyz Kabaeva, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners -- Cape Elizabeth Internal Medicine. Dr. Kabaeva is Board certified in Internal Medicine and received her medical degree from Kyrgyz State Medical Academy in Kyrgyzstan. She completed an internal medicine residency at Kyrgyz National Center of Cardiology and Internal Medicine, and a second residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was Chief Resident. She has extensive basic science research experience through her work at Charité - University Medicine Berlin, Germany, and University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Kabaeva's special interests include heart disease, diabetes, skin conditions and women's health. She is passionate about teaching and keeping up with medical science. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children as well as traveling and reading.
Adam Normandin, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Portland Family Medicine. Dr. Normandin will also working with the Preble Street Learning Collaborative. He received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine - Maine Track program. Dr. Normandin completed his Family Medicine residency here at Maine Medical Center. His special interests include innovative approaches to delivering primary care and working with patients experiencing homelessness. When not working, Dr. Normandin enjoys getting outside and staying active - most often running, biking, stand-up paddle boarding - as well as exploring Portland's wonderful restaurants.
Melanie Leu, M.D., FAAFP, FACMG, has joined Maine Medical Partners - Pediatric Specialty Care, Division of Genetics. Dr. Leu has been Board certified in Family Medicine and Medical Genetics and Genomics. She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed her residency at The Ohio State University. She completed her fellowship in Genetics at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Leu served in the Air Force as a family physician and critical care air transport physician. Her clinical interests include cardiogenetics, pharmacogenomics and neurogenetics. She is also interested in the care of children with differences in sexual differentiation and in counseling and guiding their families. Her prior career as a family physician makes her uniquely qualified to provide continuity of care for individuals with known genetic conditions from childhood into adulthood.
Stephen Tuohy, M.D., recently joined Maine Medical Center - MaineHealth Cardiology. He completed a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship through the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He also performed cardiac electrophysiology research at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin and underwent specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He has a master of science from the National University of Ireland, Galway; an advanced certificate in heart failure from the University of Zurich; and a doctorate in medicine from the University College Dublin. Dr. Tuohy was awarded the Cormac Trust Research Fellowship Grant for his research on sudden cardiac death in Ireland. His special interests include the management of heart rhythm disorders, the implantation and management of cardiac device such as pacemakers and defibrillators, the management of individuals at high risk for arrhythmias and the implantation of devices to prevent stroke in certain atrial fibrillation patients.
Rebecca Kalman, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Center's Palliative Medicine program. Dr. Kalman is Board certified in anesthesiology and critical care. She received her medical degree from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Dr. Kalman completed her anesthesia residency and critical care fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she stayed on as staff spending the majority of her time working in the neurovascular operating rooms and surgical ICU. She joined Maine Medical Center to complete a second fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine and will now split her time between anesthesia and palliative medicine. Her clinical interests include palliative care in the ICU and perioperative setting as well as resident and medical student education. In her spare time, Dr. Kalman enjoys running, doing yoga and traveling.
Kiranjot Gujral, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Endocrinology and Diabetes. She received her medical degree from Government Medical College in Chandigarh, India. Dr. Gujral completed her residency at University of North Dakota and fellowship at University of Minnesota. She is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Dr. Gujral comes to Maine Medical Center from Maine General Hospital. Her clinical interests include diabetes and osteoporosis. In her sparetime, Dr. Gujral enjoys cooking, painting and traveling.
John Lowery, D.O., Ph.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Falmouth Family Medicine as an Attending Physician, Associate Medical Director, Site Leader and Residency Co-Director. Dr. Lowery received his medical degree from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and his post-doctorate from University of Maine Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Central Maine Medical Center. Dr. Lowery comes to us from CMMC where he was the medical director and faculty for their Family Medicine Residency program. His clinical interests include osteopathic manipulative medicine, sports medicine and preventative care. When not working, Dr. Lowery enjoys spending time with family and enjoying the outdoors.
Lauren Del Prato, D.O., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Neurosurgery & Spine. Dr. Del Prato received her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at SUNY Upstate Medical University and her fellowship in pain medicine from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Her clinical interests include multimodal treatment of acute and chronic spine conditions and interventional spine care. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, being on the water and exploring coastal Maine.
Nicholas Colacchio, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Colacchio is a native of Vermont and graduated from Middlebury College. He received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New England Baptist Hospital and Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He completed an adult reconstructive fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Colacchio's clinical interests include primary hip and knee replacements, complex revision hip and knee replacements, periprosthetic fractures and lower extremity trauma. He will be focusing on adult joint reconstruction, specifically hip and knee arthroplasty.
Christina Mimikos, D.O., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Otolaryngology. Dr. Mimikos received her medical degree from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in otolaryngology - facial plastic surgery at Michigan State University and her fellowship in head and neck surgery from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Dr. Mimikos is particularly interested in the treatment of head and neck cancers, and reconstruction after cancer surgery. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and cooking.
Ross J. Feller, M.D., has joined Maine Medical Partners - Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as the group's hand and upper extremity surgeon. Dr. Feller received his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. Additional training included a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University and most recently, a fellowship in hand, upper extremity and microvascular surgery at the University of Utah. Some of Dr. Feller's clinical interests include carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Duputryen's disease, acute upper extremity facture care, post-traumatic upper extremity reconstruction, pediatric hand surgery and arthritic and degenerative condition
Amy Mayhew, M.D., M.P.H., has joined the Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center, Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Mayhew will assume physician leadership for the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Division's outpatient clinic at 66 Bramhall Street. Dr. Mayhew completed her Master's Degree in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal. She earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. She completed a residency in psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, then a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry from Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, MA. She is Board certified in both psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Mayhew comes to MMC from Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts where she was Medical Director of the Psychiatry Access Program. She has participated in funded research, currently on a SAMHSA-supported project for integrated models of pediatric psychiatry. She is also a dedicated educator, teaching and supervising students and residents via a teaching appointment at Harvard Medical School. Here at MMC, Dr. Mayhew will teach and supervise TUSM medical students, as well as residents and fellows in psychiatry and child psychiatry.
