Learn about diabetes resources available in Lincoln County on World Diabetes Day

Learn about the many resources available in Lincoln County for those with prediabetes or diabetes at LincolnHealth on World Diabetes Day, November 14, 2018. Two informational “mini fairs” are taking place: one in the Watson Health Center on the Miles Campus in Damariscotta from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and one at the St. Andrews Campus Urgent Care Center lobby in Boothbay Harbor from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
“There are several diabetes and prediabetes programs and services available close to home,” commented LincolnHealth Diabetes Quality Program Coordinator, Trish Brewer, RN. “We want to help the community learn what programs are right for them and their family, so they can live as healthy and well as possible.”
Community members are invited to come to the fair to ask questions or speak with health care professionals and program representatives. They may stay for as long as they wish, and no appointments are necessary.
In addition to Brewer, who will answer general diabetes related questions available through LincolnHealth, a variety of professionals will be available to answer questions. Central Lincoln County YMCA Healthy Living Director Casey Clark Kelley will explain the YMCA’s diabetes prevention program; Susan, Papineau RN and Judi Olsen, RN, Wound Center nurses will discuss proper diabetic wound care; and LincolnHealth Occupational Therapist Megan McCartney will explain how diabetes can affect your brain health (McCartney will be at the Damariscotta location only).
“A challenge that patients often face is paying for medications or other diabetes related services,” commented Brewer. “LincolnHealth financial counselors Eddie Martz and Pat Simmonds and Lincoln County’s Care Partners Case Manager Jeff Slack will be joining to help people learn about financial assistance programs they may qualify for.”
