Memorial Hospital and Medical Staff Pledge Support to Rec Path

September 13, 2018

NORTH CONWAY, NH – Memorial Hospital and the Medical Staff of Memorial Hospital have together pledged $3,000 to the Mt. Washington Valley Rec Path to support construction of a North Conway 2.8-mile recreation and alternative transportation path. The proposed path will connect Cranmore Mountain Resort to Hemlock Lane, located near Walmart.

“Memorial Hospital is proud to support the recreation path,” said Dr. Angus Badger, president of the Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital. “Regular exercise is a fundamental part of any health plan that looks to extend longevity, manage chronic diseases, or improve mental health. We have been only too aware that our patients have struggled for years to find a safe convenient place to walk in the Mount Washington Valley. We, the providers at Memorial Hospital believe that the new rec path is a great new addition to the options our patients have to realize better health. We are so very grateful to the volunteers that have made this come to fruition.”

Besides encouraging recreation, another stated purpose of the path is to provide safe alternative transportation. Memorial Hospital’s Vice President of Community Relations and Development Kathy Bennett said that an added benefit for people wishing to get to Memorial Hospital is that from the rec path, people can travel into Whittaker Woods and onto the DeMark Memorial Fitness Trail which exits at Memorial Hospital.

The ultimate goal and dream of the of the Trails Association is to see the Mt. Washington Valley Recreation Path incorporated into a continuous 70 mile family-friendly "Linear Parkway" stretching from Portland, Maine through Bartlett and beyond, said Chris Meier, president of Mt. Washington Valley Trails Association. “Connecting Cranmore Mountain Resort to Hemlock Lane is a major first step.” To find out how to support the Mt.
