Free Substance Use Prevention Classes Offered
March 30, 2018
Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County is excited to announce that it is hosting free “Prime for Life” substance use prevention classes for community members throughout the spring and summer. Each class is a single session that is four hours in duration.
Prime for Life is a non-judgmental, evidence-based motivational prevention, intervention, and pretreatment program specifically designed for people who might be making high-risk choices. (i.e. individuals referred by a court, youth engaging in drinking or drug use, or youth with families who have substance use disorders). It is designed to change drinking and drug use behaviors by changing beliefs, attitudes, risk perceptions, motivations and the knowledge of how to reduce the risk of alcohol and drug related problems throughout life.
Prime for Life helps individuals learn how to identify their risk levels and current phase of alcohol and drug use and make low-risk choices. Prime for Life allows participants an opportunity to explore new beliefs and reflect on how those new beliefs may bring about positive changes in a safe and caring environment.
Prime for Life is offered through Healthy Community Coalition through funding from Maine Prevention Services. It is open to youth age 12 and older, as well as adults. The next class is happening on April 18 at Franklin Memorial Hospital from 4-8 p.m. Registration is required.
