Memorial Hospital Celebrates Breastfeeding Awareness

September 21, 2017

NORTH CONWAY, NH – On August 17, dozens of moms and babies gathered at Memorial Hospital’s Breastfeeding Support Group meeting space to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month. The mothers enjoyed raffle prizes, healthy snacks and refreshments and celebrated each other’s successes in breastfeeding their babies. Prizes were donated by Maygan Donovan (LulaRoe); Mountain Tire (Jen Olson); Pam Bormann (Thirty One Products); Kris Dascoulias and Annie Crawford; Morgan Gaima (Norwex); Royalty Athletic Club; Maria Bilger (HypnoWorks) and Cori Gilkey (Be Who You Be Photography).

Memorial Hospital boasts a 98% breastfeeding initiation rate, higher than the NH state average of 86.4% of infants who ever breastfed. Memorial Hospital hosts weekly breastfeeding support groups on Thursdays at 10am at the Main Street Professional Building, across from Delaney’s on Route 16. 67% of mothers consider support groups to be important in influencing their decision to breastfeed beyond a year. Breastfed babies whose moms regularly seek support at this group range from newborns to 3.5 years old. Mothers come from throughout Carroll and Coos counties as well as Oxford County, Maine. Memorial has many trained and certified lactation consultants in their Family Birthing Center, emphasizing their focus on the importance of breastfeeding and also allowing for new mothers to have many resources available for them for breastfeeding success.

For more information, call the Family Birthing Center at 603-356-5461 ext. 2146.
