The Westbrook office building will house MMC’s Information Services Department

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine Medical Center announced today its purchase of the One Riverfront Plaza Building in Westbrook. The office building will house the medical center’s integrated Information Services team along with other administrative functions, which are currently spread across 8 office locations throughout Greater Portland.

“We are incredibly excited to bring our Information Services team together in one location. We believe this will increase our team’s operating efficiencies and ultimately benefit our providers, nurses and the patients who benefit from their care,” said Marcy Dunn, senior vice president and chief information officer for Maine Medical Center and MaineHealth.

The building is being purchased for $10.75 million from the One Riverfront Plaza Holdings, LLC. MMC expects to complete transition of its IS team to Riverfront Plaza by about the end of 2017.

Information Services plays a critical role in modern healthcare. MMC’s IS Department supports the hospital and the MaineHealth system’s electronic medical record system used by clinical staff, as well as the large computer networks accessed by administrative and support staff employees every day. By bringing the team together into one location, MMC can increase the team’s efficiency, reduce the number of real estate leases it holds and consolidate its investments in information technology infrastructure.

“We would like to thank the City of Westbrook and other officials who have welcomed us to their community with open arms and plenty of support. We are looking forward to building on our presence in Westbrook and continuing to build on an important long-term relationship with a wonderful community,” said Rich Petersen, Maine Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer. The One Riverfront Office Building has been vacant since early 2016. The building was auctioned earlier this year. MMC recently closed on the property.

The City of Westbrook is experiencing significant economic growth with a number of major commercial and residential projects in process. “Westbrook is excited to welcome Maine Medical Center, Maine’s premier medical organization, into an expanded role in our city as we continue our growth. Their purchase and use of this location on the river will be key to the ongoing development of our downtown.

We have appreciated their presence in our community over the years and look forward to partnering with them in more significant ways with this major investment,” said Michael Sanphy, Westbrook’s Mayor.
