Outpatient Physical Therapy

Outpatient Physical Therapy at Memorial Hospital

Physical therapy is a movement and exercise based treatment that involves working with you to develop a treatment plan to address your specific health condition and help you achieve your functional goals. Physical therapists have extensive knowledge on the body and are experts in movement analysis. Physical therapy can help patients manage their pain, achieve better balance and reduce fear of falling, manage chronic conditions, regain movement after a surgery, treat or avoid sport related injuries, and manage development disorders.

Physical therapy at Memorial hospital consists of one on one treatment with you and your physical therapist, and can include evidence based manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, balance training, gait training, patient education, and modalities to help you feel and move better.

When you first see a physical therapist, you will have an evaluation. The therapist will ask about your family history and medical history. They will take you through range of motion and strength testing, and perform special testing based on your diagnosis and needs. Your physical therapist will then develop a treatment plan that involves your input and includes a prescribed home exercise program unique to you. You will see the same physical therapist each visit, and treatment times range anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on your specific needs.

Patients will likely need a referral by their doctor for physical therapy for insurance coverage, but direct access is available. Conditions that can be treated by physical therapy include but are not limited to:

  • Balance problems and falls
  • Vestibular Rehab
  • Neuro Rehab
  • Stroke recovery
  • Concussion management
  • Orthopedic conditions & injuries
  • Pain management
  • Back pain, spine and neck disorders
  • Sports Medicine
  • Post-surgery rehab
  • Developmental conditions in children
