Telestroke - Joe's Story

Joe of China, ME, woke his wife Debbie one night, unable to speak and alerting her that something strange was happening to him. Debbie recognized the signs of a stroke and called 911. They arrived by ambulance at MaineGeneral where they not only had an emergency physician treating Joe, but also a stroke expert based at Maine Medical Center who participates in the MaineHealth Telestroke Network. The Network – serving four rural Maine hospitals and growing – extends stroke expert care to rural hospitals. Early indications show a dramatic increase in the rate of patients receiving timely medication, which leads to better outcomes. Just ask Joe.
