New Treatment Team Offers Hope for Addiction
In answer to a growing need in the Greater Portland area Maine Behavioral Healthcare opened a new substance use treatment center for people with opioid and other substance use disorders in South Portland.
The center provides intensive treatment for opioid and substance use disorders to the Greater Portland community. The treatment team follows evidence-based practices that include managing cravings through prescription Buprenorphine (known by the trade name Suboxone), along with counseling to treat addiction. Research shows that people receiving medication-assisted therapy have a 61% success rate after two years, compared to only 3% success for those without medication.
Treatment is provided through a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes an addiction psychiatrist, medication management, care management, therapy and peer support.
“Our treatment model takes a holistic approach and is designed to ensure that individuals receive the appropriate level of care based on individual need,” said Rich Petersen, President of MaineHealth.
Maine Behavioral Healthcare also offers intensive treatment in Biddeford, Rockland and Springvale.
