Our goal is to engage students in all that healthcare has to offer and to help them to prepare and succeed.

MaineHealth Summer Internship Program

The MaineHealth Summer Internship Program provides a terrific opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to gain valuable insight and hands-on experience within a healthcare system. We provide:

  • Invaluable experience
  • Professional development, educational sessions and networking events in partnership with FocusMaine
  • 10-week session, from June to early August

Maine Medical Center Health Career Pipeline Program

This programs strives to connect students in communities throughout our region with opportunities in professional healthcare careers with a focus on developing practitioners in medical fields, including doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Learn more here

Maine Medical Center Junior Volunteer Program

The Maine Medical Center Junior Volunteer program offers high school students the opportunity to gain experience in a healthcare setting while learning new skills and giving back to their community. Learn more.

Student Partnerships

Local partnerships with businesses, universities, agencies, internal and external community members, and schools are critical to developing and building future pipelines of talent. Some of these partnerships include:

  • Partnership with two- and four-year programs in higher education institutions and local school districts through public, technical/vocational and adult education programs
  • Partnership with Southern Maine Community College and the Maine Community College System with Surgical Technology and Medical Assistant programs

MaineHealth and Jobs for Maine Graduates

MaineHealth has partnered with the non-profit organization, Jobs for Maine Graduates to build awareness among middle and high school students across the state about the many unique career opportunities in the health care industry. SMHC Offering Free Mammograms for Women Without Insurance in October
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) is offering free mammograms to women in the community age 40 or older without active breast problems who do not have insurance.
