Bladder Cancer Treatment Types
Treatment for bladder cancer may include a number of therapies such as:
Surgery to remove a portion of the bladder or the entire bladder. It also can include a process called TURBT (transurethral resection of bladder tumor) where a special camera and cutting tool are placed in the bladder through the urethra to remove the tumor. If the bladder is completely removed the surgeon will do reconstruction to create a new way for the patient to pass urine.
Chemotherapy may be given through an IV or delivered directly to the bladder through a tube.
Radiation therapy is also used to kill cancer cells.
