Denise Needham headshot

Denise Needham, PharmD, President, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Denise was appointed president of MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals in April 2023. Before becoming president, Denise served as chief operating officer. Denise has over 15 years of experience in health care leadership roles and has been an integral part of MaineHealth for many years. She began her career as a pharmacist and pharmacy supervisor and joined MHPBH and MHWH in 2015 as director of Pharmacy. Denise holds a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., and a doctor of pharmacy from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions in Omaha, Neb.. In May, she is expected to complete her master’s degree in business administration from Boston University.

Kristin Cyr

Kristin Cyr, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Kristin became chief nursing officer in November 2024. Prior to joining MaineHealth, she served as the vice president of nursing and patient care services for another Maine hospital. Kristin began her nursing career in Bangor, where she served in supervisory roles in nursing before moving into a compliance officer position and eventually rising to director of compliance for the organization. A graduate of the nursing program at Husson University, Kristin also earned a master’s in business administration from Husson before going on to receive her master’s degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Megan Day, Director of Communications & Public Affairs, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Megan was named director of Communications and Public Affairs in January 2025. Megan joined MaineHealth 11 years ago, working with the Community Health team, and moved over to the Communications and Public Affairs team in 2021. Since that time, she has been instrumental in leading our day-to-day internal and external communications. Megan graduated from Bates College with a bachelor’s degree in english and creative writing. She began her career as a reporter with Courier Publications in Belfast and later worked at Camden National Corporation as a communications specialist. 

Mark Eggena, PhD, MD

Mark Eggena, PhD, MD, Chief Medical Officer, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Dr. Eggena began his career at MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in 2005. In addition to serving as the Coastal Region CMO, he also practices outpatient internal medicine and provides inpatient and outpatient infectious disease consultation services including HIV and travel medicine. Dr. Eggena is a graduate of Yale University (BS, molecular biophysics and biochemistry) and the University of California, Los Angeles (PhD, immunology and MD). He has conducted research regarding T cell immunology and pathogenesis of HIV and malaria and was previously involved in NIH-funded HIV vaccine research in Kampala, Uganda. 

Tyler A Giberson

Tyler A Giberson, MD, Emergency Medicine, MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital 

Dr. Giberson accepted the position of associate chief medical officer (ACMO)/senior medical director for MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in September 2025. Dr. Giberson works closely with Mark Eggena, MD, PhD, chief medical officer for the Coastal Region, to provide leadership support and local oversight of MHPBH’s acute care (inpatient) clinical operations, quality and medical staff. He also partners closely with Cornelius Yetman, DO, senior medical director of the MaineHealth Medical Group, to ensure tight coordination between the ambulatory and inpatient environment. Prior to becoming ACMO, Dr. Giberson worked as an attending ED physician at MHPBH, MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital and MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland. Dr. Giberson earned his Doctor of Medicine from Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in N.H. in 2017 and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atalanta, Ga., where he served as chief resident from 2019 to 2020.

 

Senior Director of Quality & Safety, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Stacie Myers, Senior Director of Quality & Safety, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Stacie joined MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals as the director of Quality in February 2024. Stacie has been a health care leader for over ten years with extensive expertise and dedication to delivering high-quality care. Prior to joining MaineHealth, she held positions in quality improvement and operations management at the University of Michigan Health System and the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM). Stacie also served as director of Clinical Integration Performance, director of Oncology Quality Services and administrative leader of Clinical Ethics for another Maine hospital. She received a bachelor’s degree in human development and dynamics from Arizona State University, and is currently pursuing a master’s in health care administration. 

Heather Shanklin, MS, CHFP, Chief Financial Officer, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Heather Shanklin, MS, CHFP

Heather joined the MaineHealth fiscal team in April 2018 and held various positions until becoming the Chief Financial Officer for MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals in January 2022. Prior to joining MaineHealth, Heather worked for publicly traded companies in both the real estate and natural gas industries. Heather holds a master’s in business administration from the University of North Texas and a master’s of hospital administration from Oklahoma State University.

Tyson Thorton, PharmD, Vice President of Operations, Coastal Healthcare Alliance

Tyson Thornton, PharmD, Vice President of Operations, MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals

Tyson joined MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals in August 2023 as vice president of Operations. Tyson came to MHPBH and MHWH from another local health system, where he served as vice president for two hospitals. In that role, he was responsible for pharmacy, facilities, security, EVS, nutritional services, imaging, respiratory therapy and laboratory, among other departments. He started his career as a pharmacist after earning his Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut in 2006.
