Spring Harbor's 2007 United Way campaign breaks records

(November 14, 2007) Thanks to staff who participated in the 2007 United Way of Greater Portland  fundraising campaign, Spring Harbor Hospital last week smashed its own fundraising goal for the year and set a new record for most dollars donated by Spring Harbor in a single campaign.

For the first time in Spring Harbor's history, staff contributions to the United Way this year surpassed the $20,000 mark. Hospital campaign co-chairs Melissa Gattine and Priscilla Masciovecchio announced last week that the $22,500 raised this year exceeded Spring Harbor's goal by more than 10%.

Hospital staff has participated in the United Way's annual fundraising drives since 2000. Over that time, employees have donated a total of more than $113,000 to the United Way of Greater Portland.

This year also marked Spring Harbor's first donation of a loaned executive to the United Way campaign. Dolores Toothaker of Administration spent the past three months working with healthcare organizations throughout the community to help raise funds on behalf of the United Way of Greater Portland.

Hospital CEO Dennis King, who also serves the United Way of Greater Portland as Campaign Chair of the Healthcare Division, this week offered his "sincerest thanks to all who participated…for their leadership and a job well done."

Through locations across Greater Portland and agreements with providers statewide, Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook offers the region's most complete nonprofit mental health and co-occurring substance abuse treatment, training, and research programs. To learn more, call 207-761-2200 or visit
