SMH Physical Therapist is certified in
Rehab for Dizziness
Stephens Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) Physical Rehabilitation Department Manager, Lissa Merrill, PT is pleased to announce that Physical Therapist Amy Bottomley, DPT was recently certified in Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) by attending a 21 contact hour program held in Largo, Florida at the American Institute of Balance. By obtaining this new certification, Bottomley will expand vestibular services offering advanced treatment approaches for people who have had a concussion, positional vertigo and vestibular hypo function.
Dizziness, vertigo and balance problems are the number one complaint of older patients to their physicians. The program emphasized new evidence based, hands-on training in the treatment of such vestibular problems. Bottomley enhanced assessment skills for differentiating conditions and learned new therapy protocols to use with patients. At SMH, Amy is now using these new skills with patients as part of their therapy program at the outpatient rehab department located in the Ripley Building.
