Diabetes Series Offered at SMH

Stephens Memorial Hospital is offering "Diabetes Self Management Education" this summer.  Diabetes Educators Doreen Adams, RN, BSN, CDE, and Pat Watson, RD, MSW, CDE are offering the series to Assist YOU in taking control of Diabetes not Diabetes controlling YOU.


Classes will be held on Mondays, beginning June 27th from 4p-6pm The first class will be discussing what diabetes is and blood sugar monitoring; the July 11th class will focus on the importance of exercise, managing on sick days and medications available, July 18th the topic will be understanding carbohydrate counting and heart healthy eating and the final class, on July 25th will discuss long term complications, self management and prevention


All classes will be held in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Boardroom (next to cafeteria).


Individuals newly diagnosed with diabetes or needing a refresher course are encouraged to attend.  Participants attending all four classes will have their name entered into a drawing for a $25 gas card.


There is a charge for the class, insurance will be billed.  Scholarships are also available, please call for more information.
