SMH RN Frechette Certified

Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD, announced recently that Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) Registered Nurse Beth Frechette, RN-C, who works in the Medical/Surgical Department recently became certified in Medical Surgical Nursing. 


The Medical Surgical Certification exam is offered to nurses who work in Medical/Surgical area in acute care settings.  They are required to not only understand the physiological indicators associated with their patients' illnesses but also the social, emotional, and behavioral factors that impact the patient and their health.  Criteria for sitting for the exam include being a licensed RN with a minimum of 2 years experience, having worked a minimum of 2000 hours.  The RN must also complete 30 hours of continuing education in the 3 years prior to your exam.  Beth participated in a study group during 2010 that was offered by Stephens Memorial Hospital Nursing Staff Educator and Administrative Supervisors for Nursing. 


Nurse Director of the Medical Surgical and Intensive Care Units, Anita Day, RN, MSN shares, "Beths participation in a study group to prepare for her Med/Surg Certification showed great dedication to her profession and this organization putting in the extra time needed to be successful.  Beth also shows how much she cares when working at Stephens.  She is dedicated to good patient care, and works to meet the needs of her patients throughout her shift.  She is a strong patient advocate and will work with her patient to meet their needs."


Beth, who lives with her family in Harrison, has been employed with Stephens Memorial Hospital for nine years.  She earned her Associate in Nursing Degree from Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.
