SMH and Buffington Recognized for Tobacco Free Work

Western Maine Health President and CEO Timothy Churchill announced today that Stephens Memorial Hospital was recognized at the Gold Star Level by the Maine Tobacco Free Hospital Network.


The hospital was recognized for, among other things, supporting education and training on tobacco use, being a smoke-free campus, posting information about tobacco use, treatment, and second hand smoke, and making treatment services available to employees.


Stephens Memorial Hospital Employee Health Nurse, Sharon Buffington, RN, was recognized with an individual gold star for her efforts to champion the cause and help SMH employees and the community be the healthiest it can be.


Roberta Metivier, Vice President for Human Resources shares, "We are very pleased to receive this award on behalf of the hospital. We are dually pleased with Sharon Buffington, our Employee Health Nurse being recognized for all the work she has done to help employees kick the habit. During the past year we have had at least 5 employees quit. As an organization we are committed to helping our employees and the community to be the healthiest they can be."
