Stewart Family & Market Square Honor CNA

Melanie Corbett, Nurse Director of Market Square Health Care Center announced that Sherry Knox, a CNA, is the 2010 recipient of the Gladys Stewart Book Scholarship.  Sherry, an 11 year employee, was a caregiver for Gladys Stewart for several years when she first started at Market Square.  Sherry was presented with her scholarship check by Henry Stewart, Gladys's son on June 17, 2010.

The Stewart Book Scholarship was founded by Mrs. Stewart's family in her memory.   The goal of the fund is to assist Market Square staff and their children as they aspire to enhance their education and skills.  The Stewart family recognizes that there are few scholarships available to help with book expenses, and books can generate substantial expenses for students.

Of the scholarship and Sherry, Henry Stewart, scholarship founder shares, "My mother always believed in education. She went back to work to help pay for my education and continued to support the education of other members of our family.  So, as a small token of the gratitude that she and I have for the care she received at Market Square, we established a book scholarship to help members of the staff, like Sherry, to further their education.  I know this would make mother very happy."

Funds for the scholarship were made possible in part by a donation to the Stewart Book Scholarship fund by the Cressy family in memory of Donald and Vera Cressy and in honor of the care they received while at MSHCC.

Sherry, who is from Canton, and has two children, will begin her quest as a nursing student at Central Maine Community College in the fall.  She will continue working full time while she attends school.

Corbett states of the recipient, "We are so happy with the wonderful opportunity that the Stewart family has given to our employees.  It is very exciting."
