MSHCC Welcomes Mosca

Market Square Health Care Center Administrator Roberta Metivier, MS, announced recently that Gina Mosca, LCSW, has recently joined Market Square as the Out-Patient Therapist for patients and residents.

Gina, a licensed clinical social worker will be working with residents at the health care center one day a week; she will offer individual counseling for residents who are referred by the social worker at Market Square.  She often works to facilitate counseling with families or with care managers at the nursing homes, acting as a patient advocate.   If desired by the resident, she can help them improve their self-advocacy skills and collaborate with facility staff when needed.   Her therapeutic interventions are based on three models: Grief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Oriented/Problem-Solving Therapy.

Gina earned her bachelor's degree in Gerontology at the University of Connecticut and later her Masters Degree in Social Work at Fordham University.  She works in private practice for a company in Lewiston called Possibilities Counseling Services, Inc.  Possibilities contracts with

nursing facilitates, to provide counselors for their patients.  Gina's experience comes from a wide array of areas, from mental health, to oncology social worker, to nursing home and hospital social worker.

"I love working with residents, I enjoy my work, I give people someone to confide in during a difficult time," Gina shares.  "A lot of what I do is cognitive and problem solving, helping these individuals sort out resolutions and live the end of their lives with integrity. In counseling sessions, clients have the opportunity to ventilate their feelings regarding multiple losses of loved ones, home, health, independence, and memory."

Metivier states, "Gina's experience and compassion have proved to be a valuable gift for the residents, their loved ones and staff. Also, she continues to help improve the quality of life for the residents, which is our overall goal."  Both Gina and Roberta note that the families of residents being served are very receptive to this new addition, it has been great for all involved.

Gina lives in Augusta with her husband and four children.  Through Possibilities, she works at several other nursing facilities in the Augusta and Brunswick areas.
