Western Maine Health Senior Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD was pleased to share that several nurses from Stephens Memorial Hospital spent some time reading to area daycares in the month of March.
Nurses visited The Community Childcare Center, The Growing Place, The Child Health Center, and OT to Grow; they read a health care related book, talked with the children about visits to the doctor and the hospital and asked that the children draw a picture about the story and the visit. The children's drawings are being displayed on a bulletin board in the hospital.
These visits were part of the Nursing Community Outreach Council's mission to support and promote health in the Western Maine Community.
Doreen Adams, RN, CDE, a community outreach member, who visited the Child Health Center shared that she had a great time interacting with the children. "They asked great questions! The art display in the hospital certainly brightens the hall and many employees have commented on how much they are enjoying it. We were glad to be able to get out and meet the kids and hope to have more opportunities to do that!"
