SMH Holds First Alfond "Baby Birthday Party"

Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) is pleased to announce that The Family Birthplace held their first successful Harold Alfond "Baby Birthday Party" on Saturday, April 17th.

The birthday celebration at SMH afforded parents the opportunity to network with other parents, see the physicians who delivered their babies, get complimentary photos from hospital nursery photographer, Jim Hannigan of Intervale Photography, fill out their NextGen® application, eat cake, and win prizes!

Perinatal Educator, Carol Welsh, RN, from The Family Birthplace organized the event with representatives from The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), which coordinates the Harold Alfond College Challenge Program.  The Alfond program is an unprecedented college savings grant program that awards a $500 grant to all Maine babies as long as a NextGen® account is opened by the baby's first birthday.  Parents of children born from November 2009 - March 2010 were invited.

Prizewinners were Jennifer Caldwell-Jeans, Darcia Sanborn, and Colleen Winslow.

This event was the inaugural party; the next celebration will take place at SMH on Saturday, October 23rd.  Stay tuned for more information.
