Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD, announced recently that Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH) Registered Nurse Shannon Staples, RN-C who works on The Family Birthplace has become certified in Inpatient Obstetrics.
This is a 2 day intensive program and exam, developed by the National Certification Corporation that focuses heavily on labor and fetal assessment. Shannon's years of nursing and heavy reading and studying for 2 months prior to the exam helped her succeed.

Staples has been employed at the Family Birthplace for 10 years; she has been a nurse for 32 years. She earned her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
