Eagle Scout Donates to MSHCC

Market Square Health Care Center recently installed window boxes made, and donated by Ryan Lebroke, an Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Senior from West Paris.  Ryan made the boxes and donated them as part of community service related to his pursuit of his Eagle Scout rank.  Ryan is in Troop 133 West Paris.  He has been in the scouts for years, beginning as a cub scout at age 7, Nick Diconzo has been his scout leader during his entire scouting career.

His final project culminated with the building of the 25 boxes to be installed at Market Square along the front of the building outside the dining hall windows and along the Tuttle Parking Lot side of the building.  Ryan has spent the majority of the summer working on the project and was able to get flowers donated by Lynn Mason of Breezy Hill Greenhouse in North Norway, to fill some of the boxes.  Materials for the potting the plants were donated by Wilson Excavation; Warren & Mary Emery, Ryan's grandparents, helped out also, by donating nails.  The Landscaping Fund at Market Square Health Care Center was used to purchase lumber, brackets & stain.  All of the boxes are pressure treated and lined to protect them.  Market Square maintenance employees will paint them over the winter to ensure that they last for many years.

The idea began with former Market Square Administrator Phil DuBois asking a few years ago for someone who was pursuing their Eagle Scout status to help build window boxes.  Ryan's mom, Denise, works in the Accounting office at Western Maine Health and approached Phil when Ryan started to get close to his final project for his Eagle Scout pursuit.

Bonnie McAllister, Director of Dietary for Market Square, did the honors of receiving the boxes on Wednesday, August 26th and shared that the boxes with flowers would be installed immediately by Ryan with help from Market Square employee Regis Landry, for residents to enjoy this fall and the rest will be put up next spring.  She says, "The residents will enjoy years of beautiful flowers thanks to Ryan."
