Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD, announced recently that Lawrence Pierce, MPh, Director of Pharmacy at Stephens Memorial Hospital has earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Washington.

Pierce has been a pharmacist for over 30 years, employed at Stephens since September of 2001; and Director of Pharmacy since 2003.    He has been working towards his PharmD degree since 2005, a feat which included weekend workshop classes in Seattle, projects and online course work.  He states this is "something I have wanted to do for a very long time, I've been looking at it for years, and everything finally came together."

Pierce is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), and Board Certified in nutrition support.

Cook says, "Larry has worked tirelessly to achieve his goal.  His major project was related to enhancing patient safety systems at Stephens Memorial Hospital, so we have already reaped some of the benefits of his education.  We are extremely proud of him."

Larry lives in Scarborough with his wife.
