SMH Goes Smoke Free!

Stephens Memorial Hospital has gone totally smoke free on the campus.
SMH is dedicated to providing a healthful, comfortable, and safe environment for our medical staff, employees, patients and visitors.

Beginning January 1, 2009, employees were no longer allowed to smoke on campus, not even in their private vehicles. In addition, visitors or patients are no longer allowed to smoke on the hospital site.

According to hospital policy, smoking and all smoking products are prohibited on any of the property owned by Western Maine Health, this includes the Stephens Memorial Hospital, Market Square Health Care Center, Ripley Office Building campuses, as well as the Accounting and Patient Billing Offices on Pottle Rd.

Vice President of Human Resources, Roberta Metivier states, "It was the right thing to do for the health & well being of our staff and the community."
For those who want help quitting, Healthy Oxford Hills offers Smoking Cessation Classes and Support Groups.  The Healthy Oxford Hills staff is trained to help people decide to quit and stay quit once they have made the decision. The new Smoker's Support Group meets every Thursday
from 5:00 - 6:00 pm starting May 14th at 165 Main St., Norway (Healthy Oxford Hills), the brown house next-door to Stephens Memorial Hospital.
