SMH Sibling Class in May a SUCCESS

The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital is always a hit with siblings-to-be.

Three soon to be new brothers and three sisters attended the May class and had a wonderful time.

They learned what it will be like to be an older sibling and how to express some of the emotions they may feel, what to expect from a new baby; proper holding technique stressing not to walk with infant hold only when sitting; how to wrap their baby and comfort them; ways to help mother and father with the baby; each sibling receives a specially prepared booklet containing activities and coloring pages that help in preparation for the big event.

Carol Welsh, RN, Perinatal Education Coordinator for The Family Birthplace is the facilitator of the class, which focuses on helping kids learn how to become a big brother or sister through role playing.

 Next class on July 11th.

For more information or to register your child for this class please call the Family Birthplace at 743-1562 x380.
