MSHCC Administrator DuBois President of Maine ACHCA

Timothy A. Churchill, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Maine Health announced recently that Philip DuBois, Administrator at Market Square Health Care Center (MSHCC) has been appointed President of the newly invigorated Maine Chapter of the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA).

DuBois has been at Market Square for six years. He has worked tirelessly with staff at the facility through the years has proved successful with the facility receiving accolades from across the state.  He is part of a Future Leaders program in the Long Term Care arena and as part of this involvement, DuBois had to come up with personal, state, and national goals to work on.

For his state goal, DuBois took on the task of reorganizing the Maine Chapter of ACHCA, no small task in a state that had about 6 national members but no active state chapter.  "Phil gives anything he participates in 110%," shares Roberta Metivier, DuBois' supervisor and the Vice President of Human Resources at Western Maine Health.  This being the case, it surprised no one that his goal became a successful initiative.
In talking with DuBois he states current membership is up to 15 people, they have put bylaws in place, set up goals, committees for finance, communications and education, and elected a slate of officers at their January 9th meeting.  He was elected to a 1 year term as president, the other officers are Bob Armstrong from Bolster Heights in Auburn, and Phil Jean from Russell Park in Lewiston.

DuBois explains that he chose the goal or reorganizing the Maine Chapter of ACHCA partly due to the labor shortage in Long Term Care Administrators, it is a highly specialized field, requiring licensing, and has a high attrition rate.  Some goals of the chapter will be supporting individuals interested in getting into this tough field of employment, helping them study for boards, and getting quality internships.  As well as determining what qualities an individual must possess to make them a successful administrator and how to recruit those people into the field.

DuBois states it is, "critical to an organization to have the right person at the helm, it makes all the difference, we want to help people be successful and long term care is a growing demand across the state.  Renewing the Maine Chapter of ACHCA is a wonderful way to build a support structure for Administrators."
