Market Square Resident Honored

Philip DuBois, Administrator at Market Square Health Care Center (MSHCC) announced recently that resident Louise Huff is one of 34 residents from nursing homes around the state who will be honored with an achievement award and photography exhibit in the fifth annual  "Remember ME" project by the Maine Health Care Association.
Mrs. Huff was nominated by Lynne Wheeler, Activities Director from Market Square.  She spent her childhood in Camden, earned a degree in Home Economics in 1937.  Mrs. Huff taught school in Norridgewock and after she married and started a family, in South Paris.  Later, she took an Extension Agent position and worked for the Extension Service from 1958-1967.  After retiring from teaching in 1972, she took her first hand quilting class in 1973.  She was hooked on quilting from that moment on and took part in many small groups of quilters for the next ten years.  In 1978, she received a personal invitation to Camden, Maine to attend a meeting to start a quilting guild.  She accepted the invitation with enthusiasm and from there she became part of a committee of 10 people who started the Maine Pine Tree Quilters Guild.  The Pine Tree Quilters Guild has been going strong for 31 years and has over 2000 members.

Of Mrs. Huff, Wheeler says she "touches the lives of all the people who live and work here at Market Square Health Care Center.  She has a wonderful gift of reaching out and empowering the people around her.  She has continued her passion of "organizing" here by initiating  (MORE)
a group of residents who get together daily and play card and board games; she has also become an active member of the Resident Council.  She continues to have a positive impact on the lives of all of those around her."

Remember ME is an exhibit which is displayed in the Hall of Flags at the State House in Augusta.  There is an opening ceremony on Friday, April 3rd at 10 am which is open to the public, the photo displays will remain up for a period of time after the ceremony.
