Performance Improvement at SMH Adds Health Educator

Western Maine Health Vice President of Performance Improvement, Kathy Bonney, RN, MSN, was pleased to announce that her department has recently hired Christine Hayden, LPN, BSCH, as Health Educator for the new MaineHealth Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

The SMH LRC kicks off its opening in January of 2009 and will be offering a variety of health education courses to the community.

Chriss, who is from Auburn, has over 16 years of experience as a health educator.  Prior to joining SMH she worked for the City of Portland in Health Promotions and has been working as a consultant for several years, educating the community on topics from skin cancer to colon cancer, working with the Maine Breast and Cervical Cancer Center and the Maine Cancer Consortium.

Of her new position, Chriss shares that "this is a dream job for a health educator.  Working in a health resource library and being part of a wonderful group is the best of all worlds."

Chriss is an LPN by training and earned her bachelor's degree in Community Health and Health Education from the University of Maine at Farmington.

Deborah Clark, Health Sciences Librarian at SMH who will be serving as the LRC Director, says "I'm very excited to have Chriss join us at the LRC. Her experience as a health educator will enable us to develop interesting and useful health and wellness programs for the western Maine community."
Christine resides in Auburn with her husband Bruce.
