Surgical Services RNs Attend
Registered Nurses from Stephens Memorial Hospital's
Surgical Services Department recently attended a two day
conference in Portland presented by the Maine Society of
Peri-Anesthesia Care Nurses (MESPAN).
Sutton, RN, Diane Morrison, RN, BSN, Kathy Fitts, RN,
BSN, and Ann Litchfield, RN attended the conference at
the beginning of November which targeted registered
nurses in all phases of peri-operative patient
care. They were pleased to be able to share their
knowledge with their fellow workers upon their return;
and indicated that the networking opportunities
available at the conference allowed them to share ideas
with their peers in other hospitals and bring that
valuable information back.
group participated in lectures on everything from the
changes in transfusion practice and pain management to
the pre-admission screening process. Ann
Litchfield, RN, shared that the conference, "Was
directly related to the care we give every day. In
addition, the conference introduced new trends and
expectations of future changes."
Snow, RN-BC, Nurse Director of Surgical Services at SMH
remarks that, "Education and staying up to date is very
important to the Surgical Services Staff. Ann,
Diane, Kathy, and Kathy returned from this conference
excited to share this new information with the other
members of our staff."
