SMH Introduces Paperless Registration

Timothy A. Churchill, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Maine Health announced recently that on Wednesday, July 9th, Central Registration at Stephens Memorial Hospital will be introducing desktop document scanning and electronic signature pads for use during registration.

The Valco Paperless Registration system has been added as the next step in our progress towards implementing the electronic patient medical record as part of the patient safety, security and efficiency programs at the hospital.

Changes that patients will see upon coming to Central Registration will be the scanning into your medical record of photo IDs for positive identification purposes by your healthcare providers, as well as, other documents such as your current insurance card(s). Other paper documents such as consents and notices which were signed by the patients will now be created electronically and signed using an electronic signature pad and stored in your electronic medical record.
These changes are part of a continuing effort by Stephens Memorial Hospital to move toward an entirely secure electronic medical record.   In the future, the Medical Records, Patient Billing, Accounting and Materiel Management departments will also be moving towards computerized record keeping for more efficient document storage, retrieval and reduction of paper usage.

During the changeover to computerized registration the patience of the public is appreciated.
