SMH Parkinson's Support Group Hosts Chapter President

Stephens Memorial Hospital's monthly Parkinson's Support Group for Oxford County will host the President of the Maine Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association, Carl Barker in April.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Board Room at the hospital.

As well as being the chapter president, Carl was caregiver for his wife, who had Parkinson's Disease for 27 years.  Barker took up playing the harmonica during this time of caregiving and is a strong believer that caregivers as well as individuals with Parkinson's should not become the disease.  He will be bringing harmonica's to the meeting for others to try.  Barker has previously addressed the group regarding caregiving.

This support group is open to any individual or families who are interested or have concerns about Parkinson's Disease.  This is an opportunity for people to get together to share stories, and learn from others experiences as well as make valuable connections. They will help provide the latest information from the Maine Chapter on Parkinson's disease and will assist individuals and families in obtaining additional information.

The group meets monthly, on the last Thursday of the month at 2:00 pm.  For further information or to RSVP please contact Marianne Gallo at 207-743-7086.
