ER Physician Featured for Sheep Farming

NORWAY, ME - Stephens Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Physician John Simmons, D.O., and his wife Doreen, were featured recently in the latest edition of Maine Food & Lifestyle, a magazine that focuses on "connecting people to local resources."

However, the practice of medicine wasn't the spotlight of the story - sheep farming was.  Dr. Simmons and his wife are the owners and operators of Stoneheart Farm, a 75 acre sheep farm in South Paris.  The Simmons' raise grass fed sheep which they sell to restaurants in Portland.  Several sheep farms in the area were profiled as part of a spread in the magazine as part of a "From Farm to Fork" feature.  In the article Dr. Simmons stated that the heightened demand for local, grass fed lamb is satisfying, "It's great to know people are happy with our product.  We know we're doing something right."

Dr. Simmons has been with Stephens Memorial Hospital since 1994.  He received his D.O. degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his residency at Wilfort Hall USAF Medical Center.
