Western Maine Health Celebrates New Year's Baby

Norway, ME - Lisa Bracken welcomed in 2007 with a slightly early and very delightful surprise.  Daughter Destini Jayden Benson was born on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007 at 3:17 pm, making her the first baby born in 2007 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. 

Lisa was due to have a cesarean section on January 8th, but went in to labor on January 3rd and came to SMH in the early afternoon.  Dr. Richard Summermatter performed the c-section and Destini greeted the world a little early.  "I guess she lives up to her name, it was her destiny to be the first baby of the year," says mom.  Destini Jayden weighed 6 lbs, 14 oz, and was 19 7/8 inches long at birth.  Destini joins brother Kaito who turns 2 years old on Saturday, January 6th, and looking forward to time with his baby sister.

As part of the celebration, Stephens Memorial Hospital presented Lisa and baby Destini with a basket of welcome gifts donated by area businesses including: newborn sneakers from New Balance; a gift certificate from Books N' Things; a ten-pass movie rental from K&K Video Rental; gift certificates from Subway, LisAnna's Hair & Bodywork, the Advertiser Democrat, SunJournal, Hair & Co., Curves, and Ari's Pizza; a baby blanket from LTs Art, a onesie bib from Perfect Stitch Embroidery; a savings
bond from Norway Savings Bank and a flower arrangement from Littlefields Greenhouse, a basket of goodies from Hannaford, and gifts from Cattails and Bee Scrappy; also donated was a gift certificate for a CPR and First Aid class for mom!   Stephens volunteer services donated a little tee shirt, stuffed animal and bib, also donating a stuffed animal for big brother Kaito.

Part of Stephens Memorial Hospital, The Family Birthplace offers an integrated, family-oriented approach to childbirth in a private, secure and comfortable setting. The caring staff works closely with expectant mothers to create a memorable birthing experience, encouraging fathers and siblings to be involved in the process.
