Stephens Memorial Hospital Honored with Inaugural MRRR Breast Imaging Innovation Award

NORWAY, ME - The Women's Imaging Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital has been recognized with the first ever Mammography Regulation and Reimbursement Report (MMMR) award for Breast Imaging Innovation, an award created to recognize facilities or individuals who work every day to develop innovative approaches to breast imaging.

MMMR acknowledged the Women's Imaging Center for its efforts to reach out to women in the western Maine area, who otherwise may not be able to afford examination.  MMMR Managing Editor Kelly Bilodeau said about the award, "We feel that Stephens Memorial Hospital's Women's Imaging Center embodied what we were looking for in an award recipient.  We are thrilled to be able to present the first award to this facility, and we're excited to see the efforts and contributions made by future winners."

Several years ago, the Center began a year round program for which Radiologists perform free examinations, with 300 coupons for the service handled out annually.  Supported by this program are those individuals who may be referred to the Center, but have no insurance, or high deductibles.  A coupon is given for initial screening, as well as any additional views that are needed.

The Women's Imaging Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital has grown tremendously in the past few years, offering improved service to patients with shorter appointment waits, and programs such as "Reach to Recovery" pairing women who are newly diagnosed with survivors, and "Look Good Feel Good" to assist cancer patients with makeup application and wig assistance.  The Center strives to find new ways to provide top quality service and support to the women of western Maine.
