Stephens Memorial Hospital Begins No Sun for Baby Program

NORWAY, ME - Stephens Memorial Hospital recently received funding from The Maine Comprehensive Cancer Consortium's Skin Cancer Task Force, the American Cancer Society, and the Maine Comprehensive Cancer Control Program to support the No Sun for Baby Program.

The No Sun for Baby Program was developed by the Skin Cancer Task Force, a sub-set of the Maine Cancer Consortium, in 2001.  The purpose of the program is to educate new parents about the importance of sun protection for babies and children.  Sun protection throughout childhood and adolescence is a major part of lowering the risk of skin cancer later in life.

As part of the effort to help new parents protect their children from overexposure to the sun, and a package handed out to patients will provide pamphlets, a hat, sunglasses, and beach ball for baby.  For more information on the No Sun for Baby Program, contact The Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital, (207) 743-5933  x380.

Stephens Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of Western Maine Health, which is part of the Maine Health® family.  Visit Western Maine Health on the Internet at
