Staff from the MaineHealth AH! Asthma Health Program will facilitate a comprehensive overview of the many aspects of asthma including self- management. They will enhance your knowledge on the prevalence and causes of asthma, treatment options, barriers to quality care and management/care resources for employee/families. Information will be shared on the economic impact of asthma on employers and the inherent value of having healthy employees and families effectively manage their asthma. The workshop will include interactive sessions. You are encouraged to bring questions and any asthma devices you or your family may use.
Workshop Learning Objectives:
• Participants will have a thorough understanding of the prevalence and impact of asthma at the workplace and across our state, region and country.
• Participants will be able to identify barriers to asthma care and resources for educating employees/families on asthma self-management.
• Participants will be able to identify the (5) basic asthma messages to include in their communications to employees/families.
Presenter: Rhonda Vosmus, RRT-NPS, AE-C is a nationally recognized certified asthma educator who facilitates patient/family, health care provider and community asthma education through Maine Medical Center. She has been in the field of respiratory care for over 30 years as a critical care therapist and educator. Rhonda is a current board member of the American Lung Association of Maine and serves as an advisor to the National Lung Association for curriculum development supporting the Asthma Educator Institute. She participates in a number of local, regional and national asthma care initiatives.
