In a few weeks, you may be receiving a questionnaire asking specific questions about your experience in our care.  We know you are busy, but please honestly answer the questions and return the completed questionnaire.

Visiting Hours
Visiting hours are flexible to meet the needs of our patients throughout their hospitalization. If you have any questions please check with the nurse caring for your loved one.

Cost Estimates & Pricing Information

We are committed to providing patients and families with the pricing information needed to make informed healthcare decisions. To speak with a MaineHealth Patient Financial Services Representative or request an estimate for services, please call (207) 887-5100 or toll free at (866) 804-2499, Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Patient Billing
For questions on your bill please contact our patient billing office at (207) 744-6112.  The office is open from 8 am - 4 pm daily.  You may also email  Fax number: (207) 539-6006. For credit card payments call the Cashier at ext. 6112.             

Information about your Hospital Account

Hospital bill:  A statement will be mailed to you after your services are provided.  Prompt payment or arrangements are appreciated.  To request an itemization of the services and charges you received while a patient at Stephens Memorial Hospital please contact the patient billing office within 30 days at the phone numbers listed below. Charge questions must be brought to our attention within 30 days.

Separate Billings:  Your hospital bill includes all “hospital-based” charges.  Other professional fees may be billed separately by other providers to you.  Some examples may be fees for Radiologists, Pathologists, Anesthesiologists, Pediatricians, or Surgeons.

Maine Free Care Program:  In accordance with the rules of the Department of Human Services: Stephens Memorial Hospital provides free care to residents of Maine who do not qualify for MaineCare.  Your income may make you eligible to receive free hospital services.  If you believe you may qualify for free care, please access the link below to print the application.  Complete the application, attach the required verification items and mail it to your Patient Account Representative as listed above or call if you wish to discuss the process first.

Payment Plans:  If you are unable to send payment in full, please contact our financial assistance representatives at the numbers listed above to arrange a payment plan.

Secondary Coverage:  If you have more than one (1) insurance plan, we can assist you in filing the additional claims after the primary claim is paid.  Please let us know if you have secondary coverage that we can bill for you.

Prompt Pay Discounts:  We offer 5% for full payment within 30 days of the first statement.
