Hospital Launches FY '09 Annual Appeal

(December 2008) Marking the start of its second decade of service to Maine people challenged by mental illness, Spring Harbor Hospital recently launched its 2009 annual appeal to the community.

A 501 c 3 charitable organization, Spring Harbor delivers $3 million in treatment services each year to those who need but cannot afford to pay for their care. "Contributions to The Spring Harbor Fund help the hospital deliver those services," says hospital Board Chair Brian Rines, PhD, "as well as new programs that renew health and hope and transform lives."

This year's appeal features a testimonial from 25-year-old Aaron Perry of Portland, whose life changed for the better when he joined Spring Harbor's ACTION Program, a ground-breaking effort that combines stable housing and intensive mental health treatment under one roof.  "I haven't had a drink in months," Perry says, "and I've learned how to use coping skills when I feel overwhelmed."

Spring Harbor Development Committee Chair Sheri Boulos says that even though current economic conditions are challenging, she is hopeful that the hospital can meet its 2009 fund-raising goal. "As always, we look forward to the generosity of our friends and neighbors to support the life-saving work of Spring Harbor Hospital."
