Student Nurse Employment Program (SNEP)
MMC's Department of Nursing provides for an annual summer student nurse employment program for 30 to 35 students which has been highly successful and popular over the last 20 years. Designed for nursing students entering their final year of nursing school, the program offers each student an opportunity to experience first hand the role of the professional nurse and to augment his or her clinical experiences during a paid work program under the oversight of RN preceptors.
Approximately one-third of MMC's SNEPs are engaged in the University of Southern Maine's (USM) Geary Co-Op Program which combines a two credit USM elective with paid summer clinical experiences. The SNEP program has demonstrated achievement in providing career growth opportunities for our internal staff (Certified Nursing Assistants entering their last year of school) as well as engaging external students in opportunities at MMC prior to their last year that ultimately lead to career choices following graduation.
